Not An Elite Athlete? No Problem!

+ move well   + live well    + feel well

Fall is approaching and there is a lot of change in the air. Temperatures are dropping, children are heading back to school, and football is back! In watching some of the games over the weekend I thought to myself first, “I’m glad that’s not me” and second, “imagine how much care those players get to keep them performing at a top-level week in and week out. It has been described by many as like getting in a car accident every week, then having to bounce back and play the next game while maintaining a high level of performance. NFL teams have a lot of money and resources at their disposal including high tech rehab facilities. These facilities have some of the most highly trained physical therapists, athletic trainers, team doctors, and wait for it…chiropractors!

As a former high school athlete and UNI rugby player, I had no shortage of mornings after a game where I wondered how I would walk, let alone play the next match. I would often reflect over how much better I would feel if I had access to the same type of care as high level athletes, and further, how much better I could perform if that were the case. If only I could tell my younger self that type of care was, in fact, an option. At Schofield Spine + Motion, our patients have access to some of the most cutting edge, and affordable care in the Cedar Valley. Our chiropractors are highly trained to provide relief from pain and dysfunction that can be caused by spinal misalignment caused by high contact sports such as football. If an injury occurs, our physical therapy team can get you on the road to recovery sooner than later. Several of our treatments such as our AlterG antigravity treadmill, dry needling, and Graston technique are all used for rehabbing professional athletes. In fact, Active Release Technique, which I am certified to use as treatment, started as a way to help elite athletes perform better.

Professional athletes use some of the best facilities, equipment, and resources available to take care of themselves, and that often comes with financial and time commitments that are inaccessible to most of us. The good news is, the treatment we provide at our clinic is significantly more cost effective than more invasive treatments like surgery or pharmaceuticals. One thing that I have always found to be so cool is that adjustments are accessible and affordable to almost everyone. We may not be able to afford a personal chef, home ice bath/sauna, or have access to a multimillion dollar training facility, but, we do have the ability to improve how our body functions and improve performance from the inside-out.
